Gang stole 6 million from bank in Santa Cruz

The judicial authorities handle the hypothesis that the robbery to a Banco Popular branch in Santa Cruz was planned from the capital. This possibility arises after noticing two of the three assailants arrived on motorcycles that were stolen last week in San José.

The events occurred in Huascas de Santa Cruz after 10 a.m. Authorities try to identify a man who arrived dressed in construction clothing (helmet, reflective vest) who was the first to enter and pull out a firearm. Then two motorized partners arrived and executed the robbery.

They left the site on motorcycles and abandoned them 2km from the site. The bikes were stolen on January 8th and 5th in San José. There is a possibility that the subjects are from the Metropolitan Area and that they have moved to Guanacaste,”

explained Wálter Espinoza, director of the OIJ.

The three subjects carried firearms and the clients were not assaulted. The police chief explained that different agents are working with banking entities in the area to strengthen security measures.
