Government defends Deputy Minister of Finance in negotiation of tax plan

The Deputy Minister of Finance, Fernando Rodríguez, has led everything related to the formulation of the fiscal project text and deliver it to the heads of the Legislative Assembly. However, some legislators denounced his presence and said he shouldn’t participate in the negotiations because of his links to the cementazo case, after hastening the unloading of cement from the businessman Juan Carlos Bolaños with indications for the former director of Customs, Benito Coghi.

The government defends the participation of Rodríguez in the process before the legislators, since they believe he is the best person to do so.

We will try to give the fractions the necessary explanations and justifications about the importance of Don Fernando in the process for his knowledge and expert handling of the issues,”

said Mauricio Herrera, Minister of Communication.

The leader added that Rodriguez is the most appropriate person to take the pulse of the issue with the legislators.

This fiscal project is the last opportunity that the administration of Luis Guillermo Solís has to leave new taxes to the country through Value Added, which would tax goods and services at a rate of 13%.
