Deputy Minister of Transport denies having used Uber

July 20, 2016 by Staff News Writer

Deputy Minister of Transport, Liza Castillo, said she has never used Uber, in response to an accusation made by the National Union of Taxi Drivers (UNT), whose members are leading a case against the State and the company Uber.

I am not a user of Uber, I have not downloaded the application, I am not a user of the service and I believe in the ability of the formal system of this country to modernize,”

said Castillo.

The deputy minister believes that the transport platform is an informal and illegal service that promotes traffic congestion.

Rubén Vargas, president of the UNT, says they have included the deputy minister to testify and to review her phone calls in order to determine if she indeed used the service.

Castillo was asked if she would attend the hearings and she simply replied that this decision would be taken by Transport Minister, Carlos Villalta.
