Taxi drivers celebrated deputy minister’s deposition

June 24, 2016 by Staff News Writer

Domestic cabbies showed their satisfaction after the deposition of Sebastián Urbina as deputy minister of transport. The union believed President Solís’ determination to remove Urbina was timely.

According to Rubén Vargas, member of the Unión de Taxistas Costarricenses,

It’s something that should have happened a while ago. This man is an enemy of paid transport workers and the president took a long time to remove him. It was the best news we could have received. We were really concerned that he was managing transport affairs.”

Gilbert Ureña, from the Foro Nacional de Taxistas, says that

a deputy minister who fails to establish a dialogue with the transport sector in general cannot have such an important responsibility, which is why we back the president’s decision. We believe Urbina was the one who legalized Uber and did nothing to regulate this service.”
