Government would take CONAVI’s funds

According to Rolando González, legislator from the party Liberación Nacional (PLN), the government would draw resources from the National Highway Council (CONAVI) to transfer ¢21 billion (that were already allocated for CONAVI) to municipalities for road network maintenance.

The legislator believes that removing those funds from CONAVI would weaken the institution and prevent the construction of bridges and the paving of national roads that won’t be carried out due to a lack of funds. González added that the government should look for unbudgeted funds to fulfill its commitment to the municipalities.

However, deputy Minister of Expenditure, José Francisco Pacheco, stated there will be no cuts in infrastructure and that those funds claimed by the local governments were not included in the first extraordinary budget.
