Green alert across the country due to heavy downpours

The National Emergency Commission (CNE) declared a green alert in the entire country because of the persistence of heavy downpours, which have caused emergencies at different locations.

This means that municipalities are formally requested to pay attention to possible dangerous situations caused by the rains.

Walter Fonseca, head of operations of the CNE, confirmed that from Monday afternoon until Tuesday morning, 69 emergencies were reported, specifically floods and landslides.

Paquera in Puntarenas, Cañas in Guanacaste and Aserrí in San José are the most affected areas.

Twenty different situations, including homes affected and collapsed culverts, were reported in the district from Puntarenas.

In Aserrí, 5 houses were affected by the rain and 20 people had to be moved to a shelter. Something similar happened in Cañas, where another shelter had to be opened for 20 people.

So far there are no victims or missing people.

The heavy rains are caused by a low pressure system located in the Caribbean Sea.
