Gunpowder shipment seized in Golfito

Officers from the Border Police and the Ministry of Public Security seized a shipment gunpowder in Guaycará of Golfito on Wednesday night.

The cargo was transported by a Nicaraguan citizen in a vehicle, which was intercepted by police officers in the checkpoint KM-35.

This was confirmed by Allan Obando, director of the Border Police who said that the foreigner, also named Obando, has a permanent residency. Obando was sent to the Public Prosecutor’s Office.

The Commissioner said that 1,440 units of “dragon eggs” as well as almost 3,000 “bombs” were seized. In addition, 24 boxes of “Blowouts” for a total of 60 thousand units.

In total, the security forces seized 63,540 units of gunpowder, in what constitutes the biggest shipment of gunpowder of the year.

Between 2014 and 2015, authorities of the Ministry of Public Security seized almost one million units of pyrotechnic games throughout the country, especially in the northern area.
