Industries flunk Alvarado in the fight against poverty and unemployment

The Costa Rican president, Carlos Alvarado, did not pass the test in reducing poverty, fighting unemployment and simplifying procedures, according to the Costa Rican industrial sector, which described these aspects as the worst in the government’s management.

The struggle to generate employment options was the worst of all, with an assessment of 4.8 points out of 10, the same score that poverty reduction received.

In contrast, the control of inflation, followed by the current administration’s exchange rate policy and the promotion of exports, were seen as the areas where the government has done the best.

Overall, the industries gave a 6.1 to Alvarado, an improvement over the measurement of last year, when the government received a 5.0.

The survey of Economic Perspectives and Valuation of Competitiveness Factors of the Industrial Sector 2019 was conducted between February and April by the Chamber of Industries of Costa Rica.

The industries recognize in this first year of Government the efforts directed to face the fiscal deficit, including the control of the growth of the public expense, the activation of infrastructure works and the actions to improve the security, although there is still a lot to be done,”

said Enrique Egloff, president of the Chamber of Industries of Costa Rica.

Egloff confirmed that the employers resent that Alvarado has not managed to carry out actions to reactivate the economy, reduce poverty and increase employment.

The survey has 95% confidence with a 2.75% error. It was carried out among 146 companies.
