Data from the National Institute of Statistics and Census (INEC) on the Continuous Employment Survey were analyzed today by President Luis Guillermo Solís, who was satisfied because unemployment did not increase.
The president said he hopes to reach the goal of generating 250 thousand jobs only with the approval of a fiscal plan.
The unemployment rate for the second quarter of 2016 was 9.4 percent. This figure is equivalent to 203 thousand people.
The President explained that informality curbed 5 points and this shows that the economy continues with a good, reliable course; and investment expectations are increasing.
Solís estimated that 9 percent unemployment remains high and he is very concerned, although it is within the parameters of the last 20 years.
All conditions will help us reduce unemployment except one: if we don’t approve the fiscal plan, but I hope it will be implemented because that is a critical issue,”
According to the INEC, despite the decrease in the employment rate, the national unemployment level was maintained due to the removal of people from the workforce between the second quarter of 2015 and 2016.
The same behavior applies for both men and women, since the unemployment rate remained at 8.3% and 11.2%, respectively.
