Judicial agents arrested six people they suspect are linked to at least 30 cases of theft from homes and shops in Cañas, Tilarán, Santa Cruz, Nicoya (Guanacaste) and Osa Puntarenas. Four of the band were arrested in raids, and two were already in custody for other charges.

Authorities say the gang started operating in March of 2013, and targeted the homes of foreigners at night. Mostly stolen were electronics, such as televisions, computers, tablets, and camcorders. The majority of complaints were filed by the victims in Cañas.
