Legislator asks for resignation of PANI hierarch over death of children

Ivonne Acuña requested the resignation of Patricia Vega, executive president of the National Board of Children (PANI), for the death of two children last week as a result of alleged abuse by their parents.

In the specific case of the five-year-old from Sabanilla de Alajuela, the neighbors had lodged complaints, however, PANI staff did not act because they did not find the house.

The legislator says Vega arrived a year ago to the institution and there have been no improvements for both Costa Rican children and for the public entity itself.

Have an act of respect for Costa Rican children, for the best interests, for the institution and for yourself. Please resign,”

said Acuña.

The congresswoman believes that the country is experiencing an epidemic of child violence, therefore, it is now time to take decisive decisions in the PANI.

Xiomara Rodriguez, from the National Restoration Party (PRN) also asked the hierarchy to stop finding excuses and get to work.
