Legislator paralyzes congressional committees

Despite the agreement of all members of parliament to create 3 commissions with full legislative authority, a single legislator managed to stop the process again.

Congresswoman Ligia Fallas, from Frente Amplio, used a mechanism in the legislative regulation that prevents these parliamentary bodies to process the bill drafts delegated by the plenary.

Antonio Álvarez, president of the Congress, said this measure

is disrespectful to democracy, to the parliament and to the 56 legislators.”

It was revealed that Fallas took this measure as retaliation for not being appointed in the Special Commission of Women.
