Legislators investigate credit to import cement from China

The Income Control and Public Spending Commission of the Legislative Assembly agreed to investigate a 20 million dollars loan granted by the Bank of Costa Rica to the company Sinocem S.A. to import cement from China.

There is a list of facts about the loan that seems highly suspicious and that motivates us to investigate more,

said Mario Redondo, legislator from Alianza Democrática Cristiana (CDA), and chairman of the legislative body committee.

He explained that the legislators want to clarify the Presidential house’s implications and relations in the granting of credit.

To that end, it was agreed to summon general manager of Banco de Costa Rica Mario Barrenechea and other officials from the bank.

It hasn’t been defined yet if Barrenechea’s audience will be public or private due to bank secrecy.
