Lima Group demands the release of legislator Zambrano, arrested by Maduro

The governments of the Lima Group have expressed their rejection of the arrest of the vice president of the National Assembly of Venezuela, legislator Edgar Zambrano, a strong figure of the opposition to the regime of Nicolás Maduro.

Zambrano was arrested on Wednesday by the authorities of Maduro when he was outside the headquarters of his party in Caracas and as he refused to leave his car, the political police took the vehicle with a crane.

The Lima group is made up of the governments of Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Honduras, Panama, Paraguay, Peru and Venezuela. Representatives of these countries expressed their rejection of the decision of the illegitimate National Constituent Assembly to arbitrarily level the parliamentary immunity of the lawmaker of the legitimate National Assembly Edgar Zambrano Ramírez, Henry Ramos Allup, Luis Germán Florido, Mariela Magallanes López, José Simón Calzadilla Peraza, Américo De Grazia, Juan Andrés Mejía, Freddy Superlano, Sergio Vergara, and Richard José Blanco Delgado, for their work in the recovery of the democratic institutionality of Venezuela.

According to the Lima Group, the actions taken by the Maduro regime are unconstitutional, since, according to the Venezuelan Constitution, the only body that can lift parliamentary immunity is the National Assembly
