Legislator proposes to prevent mass release of prisoners

August 2, 2016 by Staff News Writer

Mario Redondo, legislator from the Christian Democratic Alliance (CDA), proposed amendments to ban the early release of people convicted of crimes against life, sexual assault or organized crime.

This proposal will be raised as a motion to the National Penitentiary System and Access to Justice for the Execution of Sentences bill, which according Redondo, is almost ready to be voted on in plenary.

Redondo said there are very severe cases that do not justify that the prisoners leave before completing their sentences.

The legislator also proposed other special rules to protect society and victims, such as forcing prisoners to work as a method of rehabilitation and to deduct their expenses for the State. The other is to force the installation of technology in prisons to block the cellular signal to prevent extortion and blackmail.
