Ministry of Security calls on Legislators for more resources

Gustavo Mata, Minister of Public Security, called for the approval of resources needed to hire more police officers and purchase mobile equipment.

The project of legal persons stands out among the initiatives waiting for approval, since it will allow more than 40 billion colones in annual resources.

The minister made it clear that he requires more personnel and equipment to strengthen police presence throughout the country, and thus the safety of citizens.

Mata said that despite the important shortage of policemen, an enormous effort is being made to cover the entire national territory. However, there are few resources and there have already been cases of officers assaulted by mobs.

With the resources generated by the tax to legal persons, the Ministry of Security could provide fund to hire 1,500 new officers.

In addition, resources would be used to strengthen the work of the National Guard, the Drug Control Police (PCD) and the Air Surveillance Service.
