New British Commercial Attaché for Costa Rica

British Prime Minister Theresa May appointed parliamentarian Simon Hart as her country’s new trade envoy for the territories of Costa Rica, Panama and the Dominican Republic.

UK trade envoys are a network of parliamentarians from across the political spectrum and these representatives relate to one or more emerging markets where the UK government has identified substantial trade and investment opportunities.

It’s a challenge and a very exciting opportunity. These countries constitute a fascinating part of the world and key markets for the UK. I look forward to meeting your representatives with the common goal of further improving our relationships,”

said Hart.

The total trade between the UK and Costa Rica has grown by 29% from 2015 to 2016, the UK has positioned itself as a major supplier of pharmaceuticals, vehicles, food and drinks. Costa Rica ranks first in the Index for easier businesses in Central America, in addition to having an average growth of 4.5% in the last 20 years.

Since the UK government established the trade envoy program in 2012, they have supported the UK’s push for economic growth, building on existing relationships with international markets and maximizing bilateral trade. To date, there are 28 Commercial Entities covering more than 50 markets.
