OIJ arrested 8 police officers who were part of a drug gang

The Judicial Investigation Agency (OIJ) carried out several raids in Guanacaste and Upala and arrested 34 people, including 8 police officers, suspected of forming an organization dedicated to international drug trafficking.

As part of the operations, the gang recruited personnel from the Administrative Police and other officers so they could provide information on police activities.

In February, complaints were received about an alleged organization dedicated to drug trafficking in La Cruz de Guanacaste.

The investigation determined that the gang used to transfer drugs from different organizations to the northern border with Nicaragua. In addition, the gang apparently has members in Costa Rica, Nicaragua and Honduras.
