Prison guard arrested for ties to drug trafficking

August 11, 2016 by Staff News Writer

The Judicial Investigation Organization (OIJ) conducted about 20 raids this morning in Guápiles, to dismantle a gang linked to drug trafficking, contract killings and assaults.

In these operations, a 25-year-old prison guard, who apparently had ties to a major drug dealing gang in Guápiles, was arrested. This person, according to media, served as a bodyguard for one of the people involved in the gang and as a drug carrier from San José to Guápiles.

The OIJ also arrested twenty more people related to the gang “Las Quijadas”.

Two hundred bailiffs are working in the operation that started at 4:00 this morning, due to the danger posed by the suspects.
