Otto Guevara: “bills to create new taxes won’t be accepted”

Otto Guevara, leader of Partido Libertario, is clear about the new Congress chairmanship that will take place on January 22nd: bills to create new taxes, driven by the Government, won’t be accepted.

According to Guevara, José Alberto Alfaro as president of the Legislative Assembly will be a

strategic piece in order to slow the progress of initiatives that aim to create Value Added Tax (VAT) and reform the income tax.

He declared that he is willing to negotiate with the Presidential House, but on the basis of an agenda that benefits Costa Ricans and libertarians, because the government’s new tax plans simply hurt the country.

Legislator Alfaro, who will be in charge of the Congress until April, announced that he will be a mediator between the government and the different political forces, despite Guevara’s position, his party leader.
