Legislator Julio Rojas, from the National Liberation Party (PLN), proposed to create laws to authorize the distributed generation of energy with renewable sources.
The initiative aims to establish the regulatory framework to install and use the infrastructure necessary for distributed generation derived from any renewable source, as well as the sale of its surplus to the distributor.
As explained, this will allow to have a solid and efficient electrical matrix in the country and introduce a more advanced regulation than the existing one.
Technological innovation in distributed generation with renewable sources has changed consumption patterns, which are highly efficient on a small scale and therefore likely to be used in a decentralized way,”
said Rojas.
The proposal includes solar energy, flexible demand, energy storage and electric transport to create new supply options and electricity consumption.
Rojas said that such schemes bring competitive advantages such as reducing costs of transmission and distribution of electricity and improved efficiency in the operation that will impact on better tariffs.
He added that the Central Government and the municipalities will also find in these technologies a way to help sectors of the population, which through the figure of distributed generation can self-generate energy for consumption and if they have surpluses, they can distribute it to companies at a lower cost.
Rojas indicated that the initiative is framed in the fulfillment of the commitments of Costa Rica with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals to guarantee the access to safe, sustainable and modern energy.
The legislator also said that the optimal use of distributed generation resources will allow to sell to the Regional Electricity Market during the summer and during the day.
