Police officer shot by assailant receives medal

Fuerza Publica officer Juan Carlos Flores Mena, age 23 has been awarded the Cruz Escarlata for being wounded in the line of duty. Flores shot and killed an assailant in Montes de Oca who had robbed three pedestrians at gunpoint. Flores was shot once in an arm and twice in the leg. He reports that his arm has recovered, but one of the bullets remains logged in his knee.
