President on ethanol plan: “I don’t deny there are things to rethink”

President Carlos Alvarado, did not rule out that his administration must rethink aspects of the project to offer super gasoline with 8% ethanol from May or early June.

This Monday, amidst the criticism against this project by various sectors, the president advocated that the discussion in this regard be made in light of scientific and technical assessments and not only in the midst of ideological or political issues.

Last Thursday Alvarado defended this plan. The president said that this type of gasoline has advantages in relation to its quality and that it generates lower polluting emissions. He assured that the country should take this leap if it wants to be an innovative nation.

Ethanol is obtained through the fermentation of sugars. It can be used as fuel or as a mixture in various amounts with gasoline to reduce the consumption of fossil fuels and thus cause a less polluting effect on the environment.

However, it potentially translates into a higher price for consumers.
