Project aims to create lifeguard units on beaches

A bill aims to create rescue units in national beaches.

The initiative is promoted by legislators Karla Prendas, from the National Liberation Party (PLN), and Luis Vásquez, from the Social Christian Unity Party (PUSC) Party, both members of the Tourism Commission of the Legislative Assembly.

The proposal also sets out the responsibilities of municipalities in the construction of adequate infrastructure for professional lifeguards.

Prendas said lifeguards units would be financed with the National Budget allocated to the Ministry of Public Security and with resources from the National Lifeguard Fund that would be created under the same law.

The project also comprises the creation of the National Lifeguard Commission, a fully decentralized body attached to Public Security, which will manage the budget.
