PUSC will reduce the registration fee of candidacies

Due to an appeal filed by pre-candidate Rafael Ortiz, Partido Unidad Social Cristiana (PUSC) will have to reduce the registration fee of candidacies to ₡ 4.9 million.

The Supreme Court of Elections indicated that any party can charge the inscriptions to positions of popular election as long as the quota is not disproportionate to the point that prevents its militants from running.

Resolution 2173-E1-2017 considered the quota to be an unlawful obstacle to the right of political participation, by exceeding the indexed figure established by the TSE in resolution 1268-E-2005. As consequence, it is necessary to reimburse the pre-candidates the excess amount, unless they reach an agreement.

PUSC authorities welcomed the resolution because it legitimized the plan of expenditures they had planned to carry out.

Muñoz was clear that it is expected that the reduction will not affect the programmed expenses, since the party will have to slightly readjust the amounts to the new budget.
