Redondo: “IAFA must be closed”

Legislator Mario Redondo declared that he was evaluating the possibility of proposing the closure of the Institute on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence (IAFA) for its failure in the treatment of addictions.

The legislator made the announcement after the brutal murder of an 8-year-old child in Guácimo. The crime was perpetrated by a drug addict surnamed Campos Mendoza.

Redondo declared that there are not programs to treat addiction in children and young people. He added that in every community there is a constant cry for help from people who see their relatives being destroyed by drugs.

Redondo also stated that on Thursday he will propose a meeting of heads of parliamentary fractions to summon Minister of Health Fernando Llorca. According to the legislator, he has to explain the State’s failure in the treatment of addictions.

Otto Guevara, head of the Movimiento Libertario, supported Redondo and argued that the IAFA has to be closed.
