Road repairs after Nate “will take years,” says the government

The Minister of Public Works and Transport (MOPT), Germán Valverde, said that the reconstruction of the road infrastructure affected by Storm Nate will take years.

The damage is so great that to restore the infrastructure it had before the Storm will take years,”

said the MOPT leader.

The priority of the authorities is to enable the roads that are still obstructed and then they will think about the construction process.

According to the figures managed by the MOPT and Conavi, 117 national routes were affected by the rains and they are already going through 500 sites where they detected damages.

According to Valverde, Bailey bridges will be placed in some of the affected roads to enable the transit. The MOPT currently has eight of these bridges and one is already being placed in Pérez Zeledón, in the sector known as La Palma.
