The government has no money to finish the new road to San Carlos

September 14, 2016 by Staff News Writer

The new road to San Carlos found a new obstacle: to get 75 million dollars to build the southern end from Sifón de San Ramón to San Miguel de Naranjo.

Last week, residents from San Carlos received the technical details from the National Highway Council (CONAVI).

According to Iliana Aguilar, project manager, what is missing is the money from the government. However, it has no money to finance the road and it has to get the funds.

The official said they are studying the details to get an exact number, but it seems to be around 75 million dollars. She even confirmed that there is interest from the National Insurance Institute (INS) in financing that project.

When asked about the issue, Patricia Romero, president of Procarretera a San Carlos association, she hopes that by the end of the year, they have the funds to finish the project.

The road will link Sifón de San Ramón with La Abundancia of Ciudad Quesada, in 30 minutes.

It is 29.7 kilometers long and it costs 189 million dollars. The bill for its construction was introduced 40 years ago.
