San José was filled with music in the fight for a spot in the Festival of Light

On Saturday morning, 13 bands filled Chinatown, in San José, in a contest to win a place in the Festival of Light.

The bands from Alajuela and San José, such as the Municipal Band of Tibás, Communal Band La Fortuna, Sarchí Marching Band, the Municipal Band of Alajuela and San José Municipal played pieces that made the public dance.

Jorge Arturo Villalobos, general coordinator of the Festival, explained that the 13 participating bands on Saturday will be chosen in September.

Carlos Chacón, director of the Municipal Band of Tibás, said that with the creativity of their choreography, they hope to conquer the first quota in the Festival, since the band was founded this year.

The bands from Guanacaste are yet to be selected. The Festival is expecting the participation of around 15 bands.

The jury qualifies: tuning, sound balance, quality of work, quality and difficulty of percussion, performance, discipline and march.

The results of the auditions will be announced on October 28th, at a press conference.

The festival, organized by the Municipality of San José for the twenty-first time, will take place on December 17th.
