Solís will ask Antonio Álvarez to rekindle fiscal plan

As confirmed by the Minister of the Presidency, Sergio Alfaro, President Luis Guillermo Solís said he will seek to meet National Liberation candidate Antonio Álvarez to discuss the tax plan and the opportunity to revive it in the Legislative Assembly.

Álvarez Desanti re-presided the Congress after winning the PLN convention and will lead the Plenary in the last weeks of the extraordinary sessions, so they will try to get his support to discuss VAT and Income.

Of course I will talk to Don Antonio and all the other political forces of the Legislative Assembly. It opens the possibility for us to make progress in the next three weeks,”

indicated Solís.

According to the President, the candidate always showed his concern and consent on the fiscal issue. However, he knows that the support of the other political forces will be needed to make progress.

The new VAT and Revenue taxes found much resistance from legislators, who even forced the Executive to remove it from the extraordinary sessions and come up an alternative plan, which also did not fit in the different fractions.

Now comes a new opportunity, with Álvarez Desanti as the mediator, who has said that before working on taxes, they need to work on the reform of salary pluses, a project that the Government also withdrew from the extraordinary.

Still, Solís hopes to find support and commitment from all to achieve progress in the project, reiterating that it is something that Costa Rica urgently needs.
