According to the Public Utilities Regulatory Authority (ARESEP), it is illegal for licensed taxi drivers to change special or preferential rates for waiting and picking up guests at hotel properties or other locations. Drivers also many not charge extra to take passengers to “hot sheet” motels. Drivers, however may charge extra rates approved by ARESEP, if they are asked to wait on a passenger.

ARESEP reminds passengers who wish to file a complaint to note the plate number, time and place in order to try to locate the driver.
