Three brave women are chasing Otto

Their mission is to reach as far as anyone dares: they are pursuing Otto meteorological phenomenon until they can reach the center of the storm.

Three young American women play a key role in the Hurricane Hunters team’s mission from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.

They are flight director and meteorologist Jess Williams, NOAA pilot and officer Cathy Martin and hurricane-research scientist Kelly Ryan.

According to the US embassy in Costa Rica, the experts were also part of the mission that studied Hurricane Matthew.

The scientific team flies aboard the WP-3D Orion aircraft, known as “Miss Piggy.” The collected data are essential to know about the behavior of the natural phenomenon.

Otto would hit land today on the Caribbean coast of Costa Rica and Nicaragua.
