Turrialba Volcano wakes up

At 7:15 on Thursday morning, Turrialba Volcano erupted gas and ash.

According to María Martínez, expert of the Volcanological and Seismological Observatory of Costa Rica (OVSICORI), the plume rose to 400 meters above the crater and to 3,740 meters above sea level.

The height of the ash and gas plume does not exceed 500 meters above the top of the volcano. The amount of ash emitted is slight. The ash plume has a reddish color due to the refraction of sunlight produced by the solid and liquid fine particles suspended in the gases and water vapor,”

reported Martínez through the entity’s Facebook.

No ash fall or sulfur odor has yet been reported in any sector.
