Turrialba volcano tricked OVSICORI volcanologists. The accumulation of ash near its slopes caused that three seismographs and a camera, located around the top, stopped working.

The equipment is used to monitor the volcano’s activity. A group of experts traveled to the area on October 17th to try to solve the problem.

We are trying to save our equipment to continue sending information. We must take it to the station, remove the ash layer and check the battery,

explained Eliecer Duarte, a volcanologist from OVSICORI.

Currenty, the OVSICORI is using a slightly distant station to monitor. Experts say the volcano shows a decrease in activity.

Wind direction favors ashfall in areas near the volcano such as Turrialba, Santa Rosa, San Antonio and San Rafael.
