Water is still potable despite ash

The water processing plants responsible for water purification in Costa Rica are trained to filter the ash that reaches rivers and streams.

Thus, according to the Costa Rican Institute of Aqueducts and Sewers (AyA), the quality of water reaching the Costa Rican homes is guaranteed despite the significant ashfall emanating from Turrialba Volcano.

This is demonstrated by the studies carried out by the National Water Laboratory.

We call the population to make proper use of water to prevent lower levels of storage tanks and causing shortages in communities across the metropolitan area,”

said the institution.

The recommendation is to collect the ashes manually and not use potable water for washing sidewalks, houses, vehicles, among other activities.
