In order to protect the sources that guarantee water to 27,000 people in rural areas, a company has been working for more than 10 years on specific actions to assure their preservation.
As part of a commitment made in 2004, company Coopesantos R.L. has already invested 170 million colones in buying 138 hectares of land that were ceded to the Administrative Associations of Rural Water Supply (ASADAS).
The Protection of Water Resources Program aims to protect areas where water sources are, especially those that are used by ASADAS to supply water to communities,
said Ronald Ilama, Coopesantos R.L. Social Manager.
The communities that benefit from these actions are Mora, Acosta, Aserrí, Desamparados, Cártago, El Guarco, Dota, Tarrazú and León Cortés.
As part of the efforts, the company acquired 6,000 tree species like Lorito, açoita-cavalo and Corteza Amarilla, which were planted in areas near rivers.
