What do you have to do if the police confiscates a bicycle, car or motorcycle?

If you have the same fate as national cyclist Andrey Amador and the authorities confiscates your bicycle, car or motorcycle, it is important that you take into account how to recover it from the Road Safety Council (COSEVI).

The first thing to do is to pay the infraction. In the case of Amador he was fined with 51,000 colones for riding his bicycle on non-allowed roads.

In addition, you must pay the custody and the carry, that means the cost of moving the vehicle to the offices of COSEVI and the days that it remains there.

According to article 2 of the Traffic Law, the car haulage costs 5,248 colones from 0 to 6 kilometers. Starting at 7 kilometers, the amount is increased by 891 colones for each kilometer traveled. For each day held in custody, the amount is 3,484 colones.

In addition, owner’s document of the vehicle or an affidavit with the characteristics of the same must be taken to the site.

All pending infractions must  be cancelled in advance.

The cyclist was fined by a Traffic Officer after riding a bike on route 27 on December 13th. Amador denounced the situation on his Facebook profile but he later admitted that he broke the law.
