The incident occurred near Cabo Blanco, in the Central Pacific, about 60 miles from the coast. Three boats were intercepted while transporting cocaine.

As a result of the operation, seven people were arrested and officers managed to seize 745 kilograms of the drug.

According to the Public Security Minister, Gustavo Mata, when the officers caught the suspects, they were transferring the drug from a boat to two yachts.

When the suspects noticed the presence of the police, they began throwing packages into the sea.

In the first boat, which carried the cocaine, there were three Colombians named Ortíz, Castro and Castillo. In the other two boats there were three Costa Ricans (Montiel, Ledezma and Madrigal) and a Nicaraguan man named Barreto.

All detainees, who have no criminal record, were taken to the Public Ministry and await a court decision.

The operation was carried out by the National Coast Guard Service (SNG) and the Air Surveillance Service (SVA).

Mata recalled that so far they have seized 10 tons of cocaine in 2016.
