CEPAL: Costa Rica has the first place in mobile Internet access

A report by the Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (CEPAL) revealed that Costa Rica is the number one country regarding the access to Internet via mobile devices in the region.

The data show that the number of subscribers to this service grew 440% from 2010 to 2015.

On the use of Internet in the country, the report highlights that more than 50% of the activities are related to the use of social networks followed by the download of multimedia files and e-mail communication.

Easy access to social networks in the local language facilitate its use. In addition, the fact that much of the content is generated locally reflects users’ interests and culture from each country,

stated the analysis.

However, weeks ago a report from the Superintendence of Telecommunications (SUTEL) and the company Open Signal noted that the speed of mobile Internet in Costa Rica is one of the worst in the world.
