According to data provided by the Directorate of Immigration, between 2000 and 2013, a total of 1,355 Colombians, 187 Mexicans and 142 Guatemalans and 58 Hondurans were deported. Typically persons being deported from Costa Rica have recently completed a prison sentence. On average it takes about one month to process a deportee out of the prison system and out of the country. Some petition the courts to remain in Costa Rica, but only very few are successful.
