The Costa Rican Electricity Institute (ICE) is accused of paying 400 managers who didn’t perform any actual work for the company, according to a report from an independent auditor.
The report was reviewed in a session of a Legislative Assembly committee, which is investigating ICE for allegedly paying illegal wages.
The former corporative finance and administrative manager of ICE, Claudio Dittel, laid off on April 12, made a statement during the session. Dittel said that most officials suspected of receiving illegal payments held managerial positions but they didn’t actually have any employee under their supervision. The involved staff mostly worked in the telecommunications unit of the company.
ICE’s top management has been warned by its own Judicial Process Consulting office of the need to adjust the salaries of at least 273 employees to the kind of tasks they do.
