Liberation presidential candidate, Johnny Araya is considering Fernando Berrocal for Minister of Security, after campaigning with him in the southern zone of the country. Araya cited Berrocal as having a strong track record for public service and qualified, that if elected his decision is not final.

Berrocal had served as Minister of Security in the administration of Oscar Arias (2006-2010), but ran afoul of the president after stating that Colombia had uncovered a list of Costa Rican politicians, aligned with the terrorist organization, Revolutionary Armed Forces (FARC). He also served briefly as ambassador to Panama during the current administration.

Berrocal’s career as a cabinet official started during the administration of President Luis Alberto Monge (1982-1986). He also served as the Costa Rica ambassador to the Soviet Union (1974-1978).
