José María Villalta :PAC wants votes from Frente Amplio without speaking to Frente Amplio

Former candidate of the Frente Amplio, José María Villalta, says he still does not close the door to a dialogue with the PAC. (MARIO ROJAS)

Four days after the election, José María Villalta still feels like a presidential candidate. With just two months remaining before a run off election for president, Villalta says that relations with the Citizen Action Party (PAC) have turned cold. He attributes the fall out to a decision made by PAC leadership to move away from the Frente Amplio in the last weeks of the campaign, after political attacks qualified them as communists.

Villalta confirmed that the party will not negotiate with the ruling Liberacion (PLN) party to form a collision government. However, he has not discarded working with the PAC.

Villalta denied he is a communist, but upheld his firm socialist and democratic ideals.
