Legislators of the Tourism Commission approved a motion to investigate alleged irregularities in Manuel Antonio Park in Quepos.
According to the legislators, some of their objectives are analyzing a series of complaints related to abandonment, the situation of sanitary batteries, and problems with wastewater.
In the approved proposal it is indicated that they will also delve into the management, operation and administration of the park, by the Ministry of Environment and Energy (MINAE).
The motion was approved due to the importance of tourism for the nation, because this place generates more than $7 million per year, besides the income of the families by means of sale of souvenirs, tourist guides, restaurants, hotels, among others.
Manuel Antonio National Park, despite being one of the most recognized parks in the world, has suffered from a number of administrative, environmental and public health deficiencies for more than ten years, and these affect the local and national economy, as well as the tourist image of the country,”
says the motion approved.
It is expected that Carlos Manuel Rodríguez, the head of MINAE and María Amalia Revelo, Minister of Tourism, will be summoned to talk about the actions carried out by their institutions.
The legislators will also investigate what happened with the loan for $25 million to improve aspects related to infrastructure within the Park.
