Will Manuel Antonio National Park be closed?

February 14, 2017 by Staff News Writer

Officials from Quepos Health Area are currently conducting an inspection at Manuel Antonio National Park to determine whether the conditions of the center require its closure.

Last week, this entity from the Ministry of Health issued a warning for the physical and sanitary conditions of the Park, which is very important to the economy of Manuel Antonio area.

Here are the reasons why the research is done:

-Since 2014, there are complaints about the breach of Law 7600, without reaching concrete actions. They only implemented the authorization of parking lots and sanitary services for people with disabilities.
-It has been evidenced the exit of waste water with fecal content and although at the present, its origin is unknown, there are foul smells.
-These waters reach a cliff where they fall to the sea.
-One of the treatment systems collapsed and having water inside it can be considered a potential mosquitoes breeding ground.
-There are no protocols or actions to clean tanks that store drinking water and sediments were found.
