The Attorney General’s Office will decide Uber future

The Attorney General’s Office will decide Uber future: the Regulatory Authority of Public Services (ARESEP) requested the public prosecutor a legal analysis on whether Internet sites, electronic payment systems or technological applications can be blocked.

In this way, the institution will deliver a legal interpretation on this issue, which will be evaluated by ARESEP. The organization believes that blocking an application or a website is a violation of fundamental rights and to do so, a court order ir required.

Illegal actions in public transport can be punished by the Traffic Law or ARESEP. However, the institution can not issue any sanction until the Constitutional Chamber determines that an action of unconstitutionality is taking place.

As consequence, General Regulator Roberto Jiménez calls for an change of the law so sanctions can be applied inmediatly.
