Training for Caregivers of the Elderly

From July, 7th, Unibe Ebais will be training caregivers of the elderly in Tres Ríos.

Aaron Hernández, director of the Health Areas of Ebais Unibe, explained that the issues to be addressed will be the tired caregiver syndrome, adequate nutrition for the elderly, oral health, exercise, mobilization of bedridden patient, healing ulcers, among other topics.

According to figures from the health area of San Juan, San Diego and Concepción, there are at least 2,512 seniors aged 65 to 100 years old in that area.

The population over 60 years old between 2000 and 2050 will increase from 11% to nearly 22% worldwide, according to estimates by the World Health Organization (WHO).

The courses will last 5 months, with 9 sessions of 2 hours each, and the idea is to start with a group of at least 35 people, who will receive a certificate at the end. This initiative is expected to extend to other areas of health in about a month.

The lectures are taught by physicians and specialists in nutrition, psychology, general medicine, nursing and pharmacy.

There is no cost and people who are not from the area can also participate.
