Turrialba’s fourth eruption was vigorous

On September 19th at 3:34 p.m. Turrialba Volcano erupted again. It was the fourth eruption of the day.

It was vigorous and well extended in the middle part. It began with a lot of materials from the crater. The west and southwest winds were quite erratic. The very clear seismic signal and the amount of materials that such heavy ashes carry, were well defined

explained Eliecer Duarte, researcher at the Volcanological and Seismological Observatory of Costa Rica (OVSICORI-UNA).

Due to the volcanic ashes, Juan Santamaría airport remains closed and it would resume its operations as long as a similar event does not take place.
