A phreatic eruption, consisting of gases and mud reached 350 meters on Wednesday at 12:04 pm in the warm lagoon of Poas Volcano. The event was captured by a remote camera operated by the Volcanological and Seismological Observatory (Ovsicori) of the National University (UNA) and occurred at a time when there were no visitors at the scenic overlook. A smaller eruption had been reported on Saturday evening. Experts think the eruption is also a reaction to a rise in temperature that was detected in December.
