Two arrests for illegal logging

For the second time in a week, authorities seized a large amount of timber that had been illegally cut in Talamanca.

The first case occurred in Bonifé in Talamanca, Limón, where several border officers located, an improvised sawmill and a man -who was later arrested- on the banks of the Sixaola River.

In that place, the authorities found 593 boards, as well as a truck with a chain saw and an electric plant, all of which was seized by the prosecutor’s office in Bribrí.

The other case occurred in Dos Ríos de Upala, where authorities intercepted a truck with 99 pieces of wood and 52 boards. The driver
of the truck did not carry invoices to demonstrate the purchase of the wood, so he was also arrested.

The court ordered MINAE to investigate the origin of the wood in order to determine if there was any crime. If this were the case, the prosecution would take care of the case or proceed to apply administrative sanction.
